The Sin Eater: The Crimes of Anthony Pelicano

2023 Two Part Documentary. 120 min total. FX / Hulu

An explosive two-part series on Hollywood's dirtiest P.I. uses never-before-heard recordings to reveal the extraordinary methods Anthony Pellicano employed to hide the sins of celebrities and their lawyers when they thought no one was looking.

From a review in Rolling Stone:

Slickly produced and directed by John Pappas, Sin Eater is compulsively watchable even before Pellicano, now out of prison and in his late 70s after a 15-year sentence, makes his first contemporaneous appearance at the end of part one”

“Sin Eater is a case study in how to build a better true crime doc. It’s exciting, and it’s disturbing. But it’s also thrillingly journalistic, and it doesn’t take the audience’s intelligence for granted. Competitors would be wise to take notes. Just don’t tape any phone conversations.”

Directed by John Pappas. Produced by Jennifer Luby. Editor Marlon Singleton. Color by Mishel Hassidim. Left/Right x The New York Times for FX x Hulu

When recreating Pellicano’s office for “Sin Eater”, dir @sangrewnur and I wanted to lift these scenes out of the real, documented world and into a space that is more imagined, emotional, and surreal. In other words, we set out to photograph memory, and dreams.
